The short version
- RPG Thunder is free and in beta. Anything in it can change, reset or disappear.
- Your Discord account is your game account. Discord's own rules apply too.
- Play fair: no cheats, exploits, bots or selling accounts and items for real money.
- Virtual items have no cash value. Pulls and caches are earned only, never bought.
- Deaths, obituaries and leaderboards are public by design. Death is permanent. We checked, it's a feature.
- The game comes as it is, and our liability is limited.
About RPG Thunder
RPG Thunder is a free roguelike RPG you play in Discord, as a bot and as a Discord Activity, and in a web browser at play.rpgthunder.com. These terms cover the game, this website and the wiki at wiki.rpgthunder.com (together, "the game").
In these terms, "RPG Thunder", "we", "us" and "our" mean the people who make and run the game.
The game is in beta. It is still being built, and it can have bugs, outages and big changes.
Accepting these terms
By playing RPG Thunder, adding it to a Discord server or your account, or using this website or the wiki, you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy. If you don't agree, don't use the game.
Who can play
- You must meet Discord's minimum age in your country (13 in most countries, older in some). The game is not directed at children under 13.
- If you are under the age of adulthood where you live, a parent or guardian must agree to these terms for you.
- You must follow Discord's Terms of Service and Community Guidelines while you play.
- The game contains fantasy violence, permanent character death and dark humor.
Your account
- Your Discord account is your RPG Thunder account, in Discord and in the browser. There is no separate password.
- You are responsible for what happens on your account, so keep your Discord account secure.
- You may not sell, trade, rent or share your account.
Acceptable use
Don't:
- cheat, use exploits or bugs on purpose, or use bots, scripts, macros or other automation to play;
- attack, probe, overload or disrupt the game, its servers or its API, or get around its rate limits or security;
- harass, threaten or impersonate anyone, or use the game to post hateful, sexual, illegal or otherwise harmful content;
- sell or buy accounts, items, gold or other game progress for real money or anything else outside the game;
- use the game to break the law or anyone else's rights.
If you find a bug or exploit, please report it instead of using it. Contact us through the RPG Thunder Discord community.
If you break these rules, we may warn you, remove content, undo gains, reset or remove progress and items, limit what you can do, or suspend or ban your account. We decide what is fair based on what happened, and we don't have to warn you first.
The game and virtual items
- Gold, items, cosmetics, currencies such as Sparks and Stormglass, and other virtual things in the game have no cash value. You can't exchange them for money, and we don't buy them back. You get a license to use them in the game, not ownership.
- Pulls and caches are opened with currencies you earn by playing. They can't be bought with money, directly or through anything else you buy.
- During the beta we may change, rebalance, reset or remove anything in the game, including items, cosmetics, currencies, ranks, characters and progress. We don't guarantee that any item, rank or progress will last.
- Death is permanent by design. When a character dies, the character and what they carried are gone, and only what the game says carries over does.
- If a bug costs you something, we may restore it, but we don't have to.
Purchases
Some cosmetics may be offered for purchase through Discord's own store. Purchases are handled by Discord under Discord's terms, including its refund rules. We never see your payment details.
- Paid items are cosmetic only. Nothing you can buy makes you stronger.
- If Discord refunds or cancels a purchase, the item is removed from your account.
- Paid cosmetics are part of the game, so they end if the game shuts down or your account is banned under these terms.
Content you provide
We write most of the text in the game. Character names come from curated name lists, and epitaphs are picked from ours. Some things come from you or your server, such as your Discord display name, your server's name and the details you fill in for a party night.
- Anything you provide must follow the law and Discord's rules.
- We may hide, change or remove anything that doesn't, without notice.
- You keep any rights you have in it. You give us a free, worldwide, non-exclusive license to store it, show it and post it in the game, on the wiki and in Discord, for as long as it is part of the game.
Public posts and the wiki
RPG Thunder is a social game. Obituaries, legends, leaderboards, wiki credits and the bot's posts in servers show your characters and what they did, and sometimes your Discord display name. They are part of how the game works, so they are public on purpose. The privacy policy lists what is shown and how to hide your wiki credits.
Discord and other services
The game runs on Discord and on hosting providers we don't control. Discord's terms cover your use of Discord. We aren't responsible for outages, changes or problems in Discord or any other outside service, and a change there may change or stop parts of the game.
Our content
- The game, its code, art, sound, text, names and the RPG Thunder brand belong to us or to the people who license them to us. Some icons are used under Creative Commons licenses and are credited on the wiki's credits page.
- You may share screenshots and clips of your own play.
- Don't copy, sell or reuse the game or its content, reverse engineer the game server, or scrape the game, its API or the wiki in bulk. Search engines and other crawlers that follow our
robots.txtfiles are fine.
Ending your use
- You can stop playing at any time. To have your data deleted, follow the steps in the privacy policy.
- We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms, if the law requires it, or to protect players or the game.
- We may stop offering the game, or any part of it, at any time. We will try to give notice in the changelog first.
- The sections on virtual items, purchases, content, our content, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnity and governing law still apply after your access ends.
Disclaimers
The game is provided "as is" and "as available", and it is in beta. To the extent the law allows, we make no promises or warranties about it, including that it will be available, free of bugs, secure, or that your progress will be kept, and we disclaim implied warranties such as merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows:
- we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost data, progress, items or profits;
- our total liability for any claim about the game is limited to the greater of what you paid for RPG Thunder purchases in the 12 months before the claim, or 50 US dollars.
Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law says can't be limited.
Indemnity
If you break these terms or the law and someone makes a claim against us because of it, you agree to cover our reasonable costs from that claim, to the extent the law allows.
Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Idaho, United States, without regard to its rules on conflicts of law. Any dispute goes to the courts located there, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring it at home. If you live in the European Union, the United Kingdom or another place with mandatory consumer protections, you keep those protections.
Before starting a formal dispute, please contact us through the RPG Thunder Discord community so we can try to sort it out.
Changes to the game and these terms
We change the game often, and we may update these terms. When we do, we change the date at the top of this page. For a big change, we will also announce it in the game's changelog. If you keep playing after a change, the new terms apply.
General
- These terms and the privacy policy are the whole agreement about the game.
- If part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies.
- If we don't enforce a rule right away, we haven't given it up.
- You can't transfer your rights under these terms. We may transfer ours to whoever takes over the game.
